Robert Hoffman (Letters, Nov. 10, “Base could attract terror”) must be a California transplant, who has never had any contact with anything military. There are four Navy bases in Washington. Bangor is a submarine base; Bremerton is a Naval shipyard; Everett is a Naval Station, and Whidbey is a Naval AIR Station.

Whidbey offers the only clean air space on the West Coast for the electronic jammer planes to train in. Our community is safer because of the Navy’s presence here. The base is well guarded, and so is the community.

How can he even begin to think there would be more jobs without the base, when it supports half the community” Without NAS Whidbey, Oak Harbor couldn’t support any new business in town, let alone any new jobs.
