Dear Deputy Campbell, Island County Sheriff’s Department:

As my wife and I turned onto the south-bound entrance to I-5, we knew something was wrong. We could see your patrol car parked on an angle with lights flashing behind the car you had stopped. As we slowly passed by, we could see you in the ditch engaged in a serious one-on-one struggle with another man. By the time we pulled over and ran back to offer whatever assistance we could, you had the man on the ground and were in the process of securing him.

It was obvious by the gear that had been ripped off your body, and the large area of matted grass, that the struggle had been fierce. What was amazing was that through the whole ordeal you maintained a calm, though serious, composure. Thank you for your professionalism. I doubt many individuals could have remained so calm in such a REALLY bad situation. We are proud to have you as a member of our community.
