Yacht Club: City could lose waterfront park

A recent letter to the editor by Ginny Jones reveals our City Council signed a 20 year lease with the very private and exclusive Oak Harbor Yacht Club. I find it appalling this action was taken, on behalf of the citizens of Oak Harbor, based on a report that is an uncertified incomplete financial accounting.

Additionally, it is appalling because, the deed transferring ownership of the park, from the U. S. Government to the City Of Oak Harbor, is very specific in restricting the use of this property for "PUBLIC park and PUBLIC recreation." The penalty for not doing so is the forfeiture of ownership.

Why the Yacht Club City Council, excuse me, the Oak Harbor City Council, would jeopardize ownership of beautiful Catalina Shores city park, marina storage and access to Oak Harbor Marina in this very foolish manner is incomprehensible for the citizens of Oak Harbor.
