Garry oak: Cut the tree and get over it

The Garry oak tree drama gets more unbelievable: $20,000 for a South Whidbey artist, and another $30,000 to figure out what to do with the leftovers.

What is a pocket park? Hey, let’s grab a sandwich and enjoy lunch while cars wait to turn two feet away. Neat! Ever see people kicking back at Beeksma Park by Schuck’s Auto?

I’ve developed a pretty high tolerance to dumb things, but this is an embarrassment. Recently, common sense told me to remove a tree or face major bulkhead damage. I loved that tree. Cut down that Garry oak and get over it. If someone wants to throw away 20 or 30 grand, donate the wood to high school shops.

The students have to pay for their project materials. Hopefully rational minds will prevail over this monumental dilemma.
