In a Sound Off article on Jan. 10, another CEO of EDC was given space to propogandize and promote EDC while pleading for tax support because it cannot continue to exist without tax funding.

Mr. LaFond was eloquent in promoting EDC while trying to transform it to quasi-government status. The last time I checked EDC was a private organization contracted by our business-oriented county commissioners to do a commisioner’s job of promoting both old and new business. The taxpayers have not to my knowledge relieved the commissioners of that responsibility.

Whether the commissioners are able to cope with the problem of economic development is quite another problem. I do not wish to see EDC go under, but as a tax payer I do not accept any responsibility for its survival. I feel that we should not hire advisory organizations to do the job that the commissioners were elected to do, EDC is one combination of letters that makes me see red.
