Feedback: Jared Davis a winner, not a loser

The article by Susan Mador, “Teen Loses Cancer Fight,” Whidbey News-Times Jan. 14, was a thoughtful tribute to Jared Davis. I would disagree with the headline, however.

Jared Davis won the hearts of many and focused their attention on the important things. He showed us by his example that even the most difficult adversity can be met with dignity and a cheerful attitude. Jared never gave up. On the contrary, he sounded a clarion call for many others to fight, tirelessly as he did, against his disease.

Jared earned his wings. He did so in as righteous and exemplary a manner as any of us could aspire to. He now soars high above us, his bright smile shining down upon all who were fortunate to know him.

In my book that is a win.
