Mr. Wallsteadt (Letters, Nov. 19) was way off the mark. A Newsweek poll indicates those who consider same-sex sexual orientation a sin at 46 percent as opposed to his figure of 99 percent.

In my 50 (heterosexual) years of experience all the gay people I've encountered have been caring and kind. I suspect somewhere deep in our genetic makeup we are programmed with the need to feel superior to others. That need requires us to denigrate others, buy Hummers, and generally catch up to and pass the Joneses.

Rational thinking can overcome this need to be superior. The moral fabric of our country is not made entirely of Christian thread despite what this administration would have you believe. It's unfortunate organized minorities (NRA, Christian Coalition, Lobbyists, etc.) can control the apathetic majority.
