I want to thank Walt Yates, commander for Post 129 of the American Legion, for his getting the first Veterans Day memorial service in the city of Oak Harbor.

I know that a lot of time went into this memorial service. Thanks also to all the other veterans’ organizations that participated.

Thank you Mayor Cohen for your moving remarks; they were all well received. Thanks to Captain Black, commanding officer of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, for his remarks; they were very moving. Thanks to Cmdr. Walt Yates on “Who/what makes a veteran.”

Music sung by Darcy Sullivan and Linda Gurber was great, they were very well received.

But my most thanks go to those veterans and families who attended the services. Chaplain Haley from the Naval Air Station gave the closing prayer.

Our veterans past and present are what made this country great. I am proud to be a veteran along with all my fellow comrades.
