Elections: Riffe difficult to criticize
July 3, 2008 · Updated 9:32 PM
First I would like to respond to the Thom Lawless letter (News-Times, Aug. 28). Mr. Lawless states in his letter that supports Maxine Sauter that he could bash the other candidates for county treasurer but wont. I would like to see him try to say anything negative about Linda Riffe. I say try because I know it will be a hard job to do.
I know Linda and I can tell you all that she is the perfect candidate for treasurer. I sat on committees with Linda and can tell you she is one of the most honest and sincere people I know. She doesnt go into anything without first-hand knowledge about whatever it is shes involved in and shes in it for the long run, whole-heartedly.
She is fair and doesnt make difficult decisions until she has reviewed all issues of the agenda. She believes in doing what is right and doesnt ride the fence to save face. One example of that is she hasnt used tactics like bashing to win this election. She doesnt have to because she will win this electionshe truly is the best candidate for this position.
When she discusses issues like the auditors findings she is simply stating facts that the public has a right to hear. She would never discredit anyone personally.
When I went to my first forum to hear all of the candidates speeches, I was impressed with the way Ms. Riffe answered each question. She didnt have to stop and think of what to say. She knew the answers instantly and presented herself very impressively. When the other candidates answered the questions, they were not as specific and thorough as Ms. Riffe. While the other two candidates were bantering about how many millions of dollars they have handled, Ms. Riffe stated the question should be how is the money handled not the dollar amount, which is vital to following generally accepted accounting practices.
Ms. Riffes experience in the private and public sector is current and relevant, which will serve Island County citizens well.
I encourage everyone to come to the forums and listen to Ms. Riffe. Ask her anything directly and you will receive direct answers without rhetoric. You will find her to be professional and you will see the sincerity in her voice and her demeanor and you will vote for Linda Riffe.
