As a Coupeville business owner for the last three years and a fulltime resident here the last two years, I have become acquainted with many Coupeville and Island County employees. With only one exception, that of Maxine Sauter, I have found those I have encountered to be helpful and well-informed.

I also know executives of Safeco Insurance Company and am well-aware that the county may have come dangerously close to losing its bonding through mismanagement from the assessor’s office.

Mrs. Sauter has simply been in the job too long. It is a shame she has not retired gracefully and allowed the other highly qualified Republican candidate, Marty Matthews, a chance to run unopposed representing his party.
