In a recent letter (News-Times, Aug. 7) Mr. Schaffert urges the Island County Treasurer to “keep our Treasurers Office accountable to the good citizens of Island County.”

The Washington State Auditor repeatedly has issued a finding that “The absence of strong internal controls in the Treasurer’s Office creates the potential for a misappropriation of public funds.” Unfortunately the Island County Treasurer continues to ignore this finding.
