In response to Sharon Embleton’s letter to the editor (“More pier, less Navy,” March 2), I take exception to her insinuation that a pension from the Navy is a “petty desire.”

Many people like myself sacrificed numerous months on end, away from our families and loved ones to serve and protect this country. Believe me, I didn’t get rich in the military, and I deserve the retirement/pension that I get.

So suffice it to say, I “bought” my pension through my sacrifices. By the way, if you care so much about Oak Harbor’s parks, why do you now live elsewhere?
