We would appreciate clarifying any misunderstandings which may be out there. We most certainly and emphatically want to cooperate and be in compliance with audit findings within our ability to do so in accordance with what is considered “good accounting principles.”

It appeared that some of the audit findings may not have been totally interpreted accurately, possibly due in part to new employees involved.

We have requested that additional and perhaps a more timely review be conducted, during that portion of the day when certain functions are performed and/or handled.

We have over the years attended excellent cash handling, fraud, etc. classes by the state auditor’s office which have assisted us greatly with the format or our policies and procedures.

Maxine Sauter is Island County's treasurer.
