Ban left turns on Highway 20
July 3, 2008 · Updated 9:13 PM
During the past 20 years we are aware of at least 20 fatalities on Highway 20 due to poor engineering and negligent stops to turn.
Highway 20 between Oak Harbor and Anacortes should not allow left turns. From the highway left turn drivers should vacate the road to the right until all vehicles have passed. A lane could easily be provided.
Traffic is much too fast for us to expect ten cars to be ready for a stop. State highway engineers and citizens should respond to these hazards.
We encourage readers to contact local 10th District Rep. Barry Sehlin, 360-786-7884, and tell him how you feel about this menace and the shameful ongoing loss of life.
Joel Douglas lives in Oak Harbor.
