Letters to the Editor

Things getting better under current Oak Harbor pool director | Letters

Editor,

On Aug. 14, the Whidbey News- Times ran an article about the North Whidbey Park and Recreation board meeting concerning the pool director and commissioners.

I’ve been a regular patron of the pool for 20-plus years and have written previous letters to the editor commending the operation of the pool.

The pool, in particular, recently went through some difficult times in terms of bond issues, changes in directors along with changes in board membership.

I am not privy to all of the behind-the-scenes issues outlined in the newspaper article.

However, reading between the lines, it seems that some of the personalities involved have historical axes to grind as well as some ongoing, resolvable issues.

For the sake of the pool, I am hopeful that the personalities involved do not drag their individual differences through the “public mud.”

As noted, I have previously praised the pool operation and the facility.

I must say that, since the current director, Bill Walker, has been on board, the pool has gotten even better.

Some minor maintenance issues were resolved and improved and the larger number of lifeguards definitely seem more focused and professional.

Mr. Walker seems well organized and is very responsive to small suggestions made by myself and other patrons.

Once again, I strongly recommend using the pool — just not when I’m there.
