Money for Zylstra/Hastie better spent elsewhere | Letter
Why are we spending $1.3 million dollars on a remote intersection with, as I understand, no problems for at least three years?
Why not just drop the speed limit to 35 mph through the intersection, put up a couple of the blinking signs and call it good?
Then let’s take the $1.3 million and spend it on a better project. How about extending the fourth lane on State Highway 20 up the hill from Whidbey Avenue to Regatta Drive so trucks have a lane from the light?
How about fixing the idiot-designed Swantown/Heller intersection? Ever try to make a right hand turn from Swantown to Heller with a trailer? How about cutting back the curbs in back and in front of the Ace hardware strip mall so you can turn in and out without driving over the curb?
Maybe we could extend the Highway 20 curb lane from Erie Street up to Swantown Road to ease the perpetual mess there.
How about buying one of the houses on 8th Street and putting another way into Safeway and Rite Aid mall?
If we can’t come up with better ideas than Zylstra/Hastie Lake, and don’t want to do anything else, how about giving the money back to the taxpayers?
