Editor wrong about recycling | Letters

Editor,

Ms. Hansen you’re dead wrong. Just because Island Country doesn’t have a program is not a valid reason to start one.

Are we trying to keep up with the Jones’? If your staff ever did some actual investigating they could find out if Waste Connections is correct in their assessment of the program.

“They need some guarantee they are going to get their money back.” Since when am I as a taxpayer responsible for a private company being profitable? And really, not accepting glass? So it’s sort of a recycling program, but not quite?

I am glad the commissioners are ending this charade. Yes you are correct, obviously, (another fine example of editing/reporting) that we are free to stop the service and haul ourselves, which is what I did for years.

I just started garbage service when this mandatory shake-down was announced and promptly communicated to Island Disposal that I would be stopping once the program went into effect. Again I applaud the commissioners in their decision.
