Team sports help inspire life | Letters

I’d like to response to a previous letter to the editor titled “Girls should all get playing time” dated Feb. 8.
As a coach of a AAU/Swish team I always try to get all my players in the game.
Once you get to high school playing time is earned not given.
It’s always nice to get everyone playing time, but it doesn’t always happen.
I’ve had some parents/players get mad that I’ve put them in with so little time left.
It’s really a no-win situation for the coach.
During senior night the seniors got lots of playing time in front of parents, family and friends in a big win against Granite Falls.
Seems like the coach did a good job there?
No coach wants to upset their players and I’m sure they would have loved for all the girls to be good enough to earn time.
That gives him more options as a coach, unfortunately that’s just not the case and some are better than others.
It’s easy to blame the coach, but maybe the lesson is if you want something that bad you really need to work at it.
Michael Jordon got cut his sophomore season and things seemed to work out for him.
Maybe this will inspire the girls to work hard to achieve something they enjoy and something that probably means more in life than a basketball game.
