Informed voters will approve Oak Harbor levy | Letters

January 26, 2013 · Updated 3:35 PM

We are citizens of Oak Harbor and a part of this community. We are raising our children here.

If this levy does not pass, it will be detrimental to the success of our students.

We are more concerned for our community now than ever before. A good education does not just affect a student and their families. A good education is our community’s gateway to the future.

The direction that our students go will dictate the direction our community takes.

Forward or backward, that’s the question.

If we do not step up to the plate and pass this levy it will be the kids who get hurt first, but the rest of us will not be far behind.

It makes good sense to support our school levy. Please vote yes.

Our district has outdated textbooks and technology, shortened school days due to budget cuts, larger classroom sizes due to not enough teachers and assistants, and did you know that if we don’t pass the levy we may have to cancel extra-curricular activities like sports and art programs?

Many students need sports and creative outlets; a place to share their talents; reasons to keep them coming to school.

Without these opportunities, there could be a drop in academic performance and an increase in the dropout rate.

This levy will restore so many things lost and will help preserve what little we do have.

Let’s send the message that our students mean a lot to us and so do their talents. Let’s get this levy passed!

If you are informed, you will want to vote YES!
