A budgetary sacred cow | Letters

This is my open letter to Congressman Rick Larsen in response to an email I received regarding the so-called “fiscal cliff” facing America and stating that we need to “share the burden.”
If there are “no budgetary sacred cows” as you say in your letter then why didn’t you mention the fact that military related spending eats up about 50 percent of our discretionary spending every year?
In America today we don’t invest adequately in educating our young people. We leave our infrastructure rotting.
Help for the least among us is being cut. A simple vote in Congress to uphold some semblance of help for disabled human beings is rejected.
Our water is being poisoned by big oil and coal so that we will surely leave a legacy of death for our children.
My government stands by while fascists do the best they can to suppress the vote in state after state.
Politicians bloviate about this being the “land of the free and home of the brave” as they watch lawmakers at the state level enact law after law to destroy workers’ organizations in America.
America spends more on death and destruction through military atrocities perpetrated on people all over the earth than all other countries combined to supposedly “defend American values.”
My question of “what precisely are we defending?” goes unanswered.
I have asked this question again and again of the political class and all I ever get is vacuous huffing and puffing.
Do you have the courage to answer this question?
Is there any politician out there of any party who can answer this question with honesty?
By the way, for all the Christian organizations out there who are standing by ready to jump on anyone that doesn’t take this season seriously and remember the reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of “The Prince of Peace,” where do you stand on this very serious question?
Why aren’t the streets filled with you and your fellow parishioners demanding an end to this madness in the name of “The Prince of Peace?”
