Letters to the Editor

Jay Wallace

It was with disgust that I read, in the June 28 issue of Whidbey News- Times, about Jim Wallace running as a Democrat for Island County Sheriff . This is the same James Wallace who failed to get enough votes at the Republican county caucus to gain support on the Republican ticket.

Democrats have a slate of strong, well-qualified candidates running for public office, including Tim Knue for State Legislature, John Dean for County Commissioner, Dave Mattens for County Assessor, as well as incumbents Greg Banks, Linda Riffe, and Sharon Frantzen. Democrats proudly support these candidates.

It was made clear in the article that James Wallace never received backing from the Democratic Party before filing as a Democratic candidate. He really is out there on his own, without the backing of the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. In my mind he should run as an Independent if he wants to continue his bid for election.

As for me, this is one Democrat who will be voting for a Republican for sheriff this fall.
