Preparations underway for Great Walk in June
July 3, 2008 · Updated 9:10 PM
Preparations are underway for an annual Vancouver Island charity-supporting event that includes Comox Valley participation.
A non-profit organization says it is again planning to raise funds for many charities with the 30th annual Tahsis Lions Great Walk on June 2.
You can raise funds for your favourite charity or organization, earn the Great Walk T-shirt for completing the first six checkpoints, and earn the Great Walk award for completing the 63.5 km from Gold River to Tahsis. The Great Walk is known as North Americas toughest pledge walk, says spokesman Mike Nicolaye.
There will be 12 checkpoints along the road from Gold River to Tahsis. Each checkpoint will supply water, energy drinks, fruit, snacks and the never-ending support from the checkpoint teams. There will be first-aid personnel situated throughout the course, and organizers will be in constant radio contact with the finish line and emergency support (if required).
