Letters to the Editor

Defacing sign isn't the way

I was saddened that someone used their privilege of free speech to deface the Coupeville Elementary School reader board. The board has information on it to let parents and patrons know that WASL testing will be occurring during the next two weeks.

The person that chose to write “BAN THIS” across the board certainly has a right to disagree with this state mandated test. They don’t have a right, however, to destroy property.

I also question the maturity of a person who would write something on an elementary reader board where young children, about to take a high-stakes test, are subjected to words that have the potential to shatter their confidence.

If you don’t agree with the test, have the courage to write a letter to the editor or to your local legislator with your name on it.
