Don’t complain about discounts

I am shocked by and ashamed of the people who complain about “military discounts.” The members of our armed forces are all now volunteers and paid well below what they could earn outside the services. Many of them risk life and limb in their service to our country.

If I have to pay slightly more to support the military discounts, it is a privilege to be helpful to our service members and their families. There is really nothing else I can do to express my gratitude for their service.

One of the pleasures of living on Whidbey Island is contact with the Navy and Marine personnel and their families, active and retired. If you look around, you will find many of the volunteer services in our city and county being performed by military active and retired folks. They will not make this claim themselves. God Bless them all.
