The band didn't play on

The Royal Canadian Air Cadet band had looked forward to performing in the Oak Harbor Fourth of July parade this year. It was most regrettable to learn in the last moment that clearance for participation in this event had not been authorized due to “lost paperwork.”

The band so wished to pay tribute to NAS Whidbey Island in return for the hospitality that Canadian cadet squadrons have received over many years. With apologies to the Chamber of Commerce, NAS Whidbey and the town of Oak Harbor for having failed in our mission to bring you a band for your special event I was pleased to be able to privately visit and view the parade and later festivities. We will work doubly hard and earlier next year to ensure participation in your Independence Day parade in 2008.
