Time to reflect on one family
July 3, 2008 · Updated 8:58 PM
Another anniversary is upon us. It might serve as an occasion to reflect on the results of the misuse of religious teachings to generate hatred and bigotry instead of love and compassion.
All the messengers taught kindness and caring for our fellow humans. They were concerned with helping, not harming others. Every day, and especially at this time of year, we have an excellent opportunity to be mindful of these teachings and the condition and circumstance of peoples all over the planet.
We may choose to generate more rancor and distrust or we may choose to begin to truly understand that humanity is of one family and we are all brothers and sisters. There is no more them for us to fight and kill.
In the immortal words of Walt Kellys little character, Pogo, We have met the enemy and he is us.
