From Dec. 7 to 20, the Associated Student Body from Coupeville High School has been sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Gifts from the Heart food bank in Coupeville.

The food drive kicked off with Molly Hughes, representing the food bank, speaking to the student body about the many residents of Coupeville and Greenbank who rely on Gifts from the Heart to stay afloat each month. In the spirit of competition, each graduating class collected as much food as possible. The students brought food from home, purchased food at local grocery stores, and collected food door to door.

The sophomore class made the food drive their own personal mission, bringing in over 1,600 items of food. In total, the students and staff at CHS collected 4,994 items of food. As a Coupeville resident, CHS teacher, and ASB advisor, I would like to give a big thank you to the kids in Coupeville for showing that holiday spirit is less about presents, time off, and sleeping; the true spirit lies in giving one’s time and resources to help those in need.
