Letters to the Editor

Got to protect that ‘bacon factory’

I just read your last editorial on who to vote for. Since a logical thinking person might want to make up their own mind and not be lead to slaughter, I was wondering about the following logical themes of your well thought out editorial:

(1) Free Island Transit buses. Since I do not believe a reporter from your organization has time to attend meetings or look at the budget, I wonder how “free” and $24 to $28 million in operational “free” taxpayer money grabs you? What is free about $24 to $28 million of taxpayer money?

(2) Scare Tactic 101: Sen. Haugen is chairwoman of the powerful transportation committee. If she is not re-elected, according to what a logical person reads in your endorsement, the ferries will come to a complete halt. So, again according to your 101 Logic, we must vote her in for this one item only. Her opponent may be more qualified in other areas but we got to protect the bacon factory, otherwise known as taxpayer money.

So according to the WNT editorial: Do not vote for someone logical, but keep voting for someone who will continue to bring home the bacon because, again according to your logic, it’s free money. No wonder we are at $l6 trillion and counting.
