Hal Ramaley was quite a guy
I so enjoyed reading Eileen Browns recent article about Hal Ramaley (Life on Whidbey, Dec. 26, Whidbey News-Times).
He was truly a wonderful man and I still think of him with great fondness. My husband and I moved to Oak Harbor in 1974 with the Navy and I worked for the Chamber of Commerce (then a one-person office, open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays only)! Hal and I worked together on the Holland Happening parade and it allowed me to get to know a truly great American and one of the most wonderful folks Ive ever met.
We moved away from Whidbey from 1977 to 1980 and when we returned, a priority for us was to find a home in the Broadview Elementary area so our son, who would be starting first grade, could have Hal as his principal! Lucky for us, it happened, and not only did we have a chance to renew our friendship, our son also had the opportunity to get to know Hal as a perfect role model and mentor.
Hal participated in many Navy squadron square dancing parties and fun was had by all.
Thanks for allowing us to remember Hal, someone who made a long-lasting mark on this now-retired Navy family.
