Can you meet the Deception Pass Challenge?

June 12, 2012 · Updated 2:40 PM

The first Deception Pass Challenge takes place Saturday, June 16, starting at 8 a.m. The first 100 to sign up will face the daunting challenge of an 800 meter swim in Cranberry Lake; a 12 mile bike ride out to Hoypus Hill and back; then a four mile run near North Beach to the top of Goose Rock and back to North Beach at low tide to run to West Beach.

The Deception Pass Park Foundation is sponsoring this challenge as a way to encourage healthy adventure, park exploration, and raise money for education and protection of the park. The Deception Pass Park Foundation was formed in 2005 by a group of park neighbors with a mission to provide support for education, interpretation, and resource protection at Deception Pass State Park. With dramatic state park budget cuts, the ability of the park to meet demands of the busiest park and largest campground complex in the state make our needs even greater in 2012.

Visit the foundation’s website ( www.deceptionpassfoundation.org ) to get further details, see a map of the course, download an application, or become one of the many volunteers that will be needed to coordinate this event. You may also be interested in helping sponsor this event to raise awareness for your business as well. For more information contact the foundation at 675.3767 ext. 26.
