Openness needed for pool director | Letter

I agree with the Whidbey News-Times editorial requesting the openness of the selection of the North Whidbey parks board commissioner and upcoming selection of the director.

I would like to know which of the commissioners is also a member or has children on the adult or youth swim clubs? The swim clubs use a large portion of the pool hours for their own use where the public is not allowed. Also, the salaries for the swim club coaches make up a significant portion of the pool budget and recently passed maintenance and operations levy.

The previous director encouraged the Navy MWR not to build its own pool and have them pay for active duty to use the city pool for swim and physical exercise. A review of the spring pool schedule shows there are very limited times and lanes available for non-swim club swim time, especially during lunch hours, later afternoon and early evening hours when active duty members would have the most time to participate.
