Hitler comparison never appropriate
April 12, 2012 · Updated 10:04 AM
In regards to the letter in the Whidbey News-Times from Robert Brown (removing the opposition), it was absolutely detestable. To compare a small town mayor that terminates three city employees to Hitler, the most evil man in history, is outrageous.
You do know that Hitler almost exterminated an entire race of people. That was really an insidious illustration and you need to take a course in history 101. Believe me, you didn’t do the former fire chief any favors with that comparison.
Mayor Dudley applied his right that comes with his job according to the city constitution. If you read this letter Mr. Mayor, every letter states they are a 20-plus year friend of the former fire chief. This is just the good- old-boy network exercising its right to free speech, no matter how reprehensible the letter is.
By the way, Mr. Brown, the police chief wasn’t fired, but retired, so you need to get your facts straight. There is a talk show host that has a policy that any person who compares another person to Hitler will be immediately disconnected. I have heard him do so when someone made the comparison with Obama. I am very surprised the editor even published this letter as the paper clearly states they have discretion regarding letters that are not appropriate.
