I think the idea of a memorial of Whidbey’s Native American heritage is excellent. However, it should not be portrayed by a white man’s idea of a Halloween skeleton holding a dead fish.

The Native American culture of the Pacific Northwest is unique, recognizable and beautiful. The commission should be given to a Native American artist who loves his or her culture and works within its boundaries.

When this beauty is so available, why settle for ugly?
