Taxpayers get only the shaft

So we get a new building for the fire department for a measly $1.55 million with $400,000 down the proverbial toilet! What the hay. It’s only our tax money.

I can remember when so-called “public servants” worked for us. Now we work for them – full time at our expense. They get their pay, bennies and retirement while we get the”Otis’ Rule:”  A few get the elevator while the rest of us get the shaft.

Why is it our officials have to have a “Taj Mahal” with additional thousands of dollars spent on the finest furniture? Well, you know how it is. When the goin’ gets tough, Goen spends our money.

Adding insult to injury, the caption beneath the “Taj” in Saturday’s News-Times says, “May soon be ‘owned’ by North Whidbey Fire and Rescue.” No, it won’t. It will be owned by the citizens of Island County, paid for by the taxpayers, most of whom haven’t seen a pay raise in three years.

Why is it that our governmental employees can throw away our money without any regret, and worse, without consequences? Certainly it is not because of papal infallibility, but because they write the laws.
