Arnie Freund will be missed
March 18, 2011 · Updated 12:42 PM
It is with real sorrow to learn that Arnie Freund left us. He, Betty, and their son Carl (we didn’t know their daughters) have been among the most decently human people we’ve known who never forgot a simple favor or how to smile and wish an honest person well.
A visit with them was a delightfully unpretentious meandering through Whidbey’s history with no pompous bragging, exaggerating, or mean spirited grudges. They are survivors of the land who weren’t too proud to be found shopping at a thrift store. Their hospitable nature is like finding water during drought.
We wish Betty the best and hope she will be loved and well taken care of for the rest of her life’s journey among us. Thank you Jesse Stensland for your good reporting.
