We are very excited and proud to announce that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County was named “non-profit of the year,” awarded through the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce this past Saturday night. Our agency was among several others that competed.

I want to thank all of those who voted for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and for all those who support our agency in one form or another. There are so many volunteer Big Brothers and Sisters, board members, community volunteers and financial contributors that make our services to youth in Island County possible. On behalf of all those we serve, and our staff, we want to express our gratitude to each of you. The support that we are giving our youth now will pay off a great deal as we help them through difficult times, whether they are economic hardships, school difficulties, or problems related to the daily issues surrounding growing up.

The future truly becomes brighter for youths who are mentored, and the entire community as a whole. These children become adults and more well-rounded productive community members as they grow. Mentoring is a huge resource for our kids and has significant impacts on the children and teenagers, the volunteer mentor that is matched with them and the family that is involved. We are honored to be able to do the work it takes to support mentorship in Island County, and we thank you for being a part of the BBBS success!
