It’s incompetence, not independence

I read your opinion about the candidacy of Shane and Carol Ann Fortune with concern. Though you note that the Republican Party will not endorse them, you seem to praise this couple for their “independence.” There is a difference between independence and incompetence. Yes, they meet the bare minimum requirements for running for office, but nothing more. Voters beware. This is definitely a time when you should not vote for candidates because of the ‘prefers Republican party’ after their names on the ballot. Vote for the candidates who are qualified for important county positions — not opportunists.
