Hello? Spring, are you there? | Editorial

The first “official” day of spring was Wednesday. So it came as a surprise to many Whidbey Island residents who woke up Friday with snowfall.
Snow in late March? Oak Harbor managed to miss the freak snowstorm, but Central and South Whidbey bared the brunt. Many drivers, including a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office and a South Whidbey Record reporter, had trouble staying on the snowy roads.
One of the schools in Coupeville was closed because of the unexpected white stuff, but by noon there wasn’t a reminder left that it had snowed. While snow and hail were falling from the skies over Coupeville, it was dry and sunny — momentarily — in Oak Harbor.
With Easter on its way, we can only hope that Mother Nature stops playing tricks and gives us more sunny days ahead.
