Rose Ann Herringstad: Sept. 16, 1936 – Oct. 14, 2019

On October 14, 2019, Rose Ann Herrigstad, loving wife, sister, mother of four children, grandmother to 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, passed away at the age of 83 in Anacortes, Washington.

Rose Ann was born on September 16, 1936, in Arnegard, North Dakota to Clara C. and George Jensen. Rose Ann completed high school in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho where she met the love of her life, Harvey Herrigstad. Rose Ann and Harvey were married in 1956 and spent decades of happiness together until his death in 2015. She graduated from the Deaconess School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington in 1957 with her nursing assistant certification and later completed her licensed practical nurse certification in Alameda, California. Rose Ann worked in various doctors’ offices throughout her adult life all while raising four children.

Rose Ann spent 24 years as a Navy wife spending much time raising her daughter, Kathy, and three boys, Carl, Dale, and Dan, on her own while Harvey was frequently away or deployed at sea for training or serving in Vietnam during the war.

Rose, Harvey and the children lived in many places around the country during their time in the military until 1980, when Harvey retired. They then settled in lovely Cornet Bay on the north end of Whidbey Island in Washington. About twenty years later they moved into Oak Harbor until after Harvey’s death in 2015, then she relocated into the Lighthouse Memory Care in Anacortes. The family is blessed to be so fortunate to have had such incredible staff at Lighthouse to care for Rose Ann in her last years. She was loved and nurtured during her entire time there.

Rose Ann was the best mother, wife, sister, friend anyone could hope to have. She will be missed dearly and always remembered.

A memorial service is scheduled for November 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. All friends and family are invited.
