Martha Jaszkowski passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2017 in her own home with family around her. She lived a full and beautiful life of 90 years.
She is survived by her loving husband Ralph and her children Laura (Bill), Mark, Ralph (Patty) and Paula (Kevin), and grandchildren Amanda, Sara, and Gibson, as well as great-grandchildren Declan and Bennett. She is also survived by her sisters Hedy and Valerie.
Martha is predeceased by her parents, her sister Regina and her daughter-in-law, Monica.
Martha was born to Frances and John Jasbec in Chicago and throughout her life accumulated many experiences and talents while maintaining an extraordinary devotion to her family.
She was a WWII Red Cross volunteer, a keypunch operator, a Girl Scout patrol leader, a foster mom for adoptive babies and a high school cafeteria chef.
Alongside her husband, Ralph, a U.S. Forester, she raised her family in Missoula, Mont., Lakeview, Ore., Silver Lake, Ore., Wenatchee, Wash.; Grants Pass, Ore.; Eugene, Ore.; Beaverton, Ore. and Oak Harbor.
She traveled to her ancestral home in Slovenia and elsewhere in Europe.
She was renowned for her skills as a seamstress, oil painter, square dancer, homemaker, Norwegian Hardanger embroiderer, and most of all as a gourmet cook and a baker of delicious Slovenian treats (Potica!)
Her memory will be cherished by the many people whose lives were touched by her generosity, love and frequent gifts of baked goods.
A funeral mass will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Oak Harbor with Rev. Paul Pluth J.C.L. presiding. A reception will follow.
