Margaret Ann Vasquez: Feb. 15, 1940 – Nov. 28, 2018

Surrounded in love, Margaret Ann Vasquez went to the Lord at her home following a short illness. She was 78 years of age.

Margaret was born in Redlands, Calif., to Guadalupe (Villegas) and Sylvester Granillo. She was the youngest of four children. After finishing high school, Margaret started working at Patten State Hospital.

In 1961, Margaret met and married Richard L. Vasquez. They moved to Hemet, Calif., and raised three children. In 1981, the family moved to Vista, Calif. In the early ’90s, the couple divorced.

Margaret returned to Hemet where she worked for Hemet Hospital until she retired in 2005. In 2006 Margaret moved to Whidbey Island to be with her daughter Chris and Chris’s family.

Margaret’s love of people drew her to the local senior center. She soon was volunteering for Statewide Health Insurance Advisors (SHIBA), a position she held for a number of years. Margaret also volunteered for AARP as a tax aide and greeter, helping people with their paperwork.

Margaret is survived by her children Joe of Spokane; Andy of San Marcos, Calif.; and Christy and Bill of Oak Harbor. Also surviving are her beautiful granddaughter Nicole Becker; brother Sylvester (Vera) Granillo, Jr.; sister-in-law Connie Granillo; brother-in-spirit Tony Vasquez; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was met by her parents Sylvester and Guadalupe; her siblings Dolores and Richard; her sweet granddaughter Victoria Rose; and Dolores’ son, Danny.

A funeral mass for Margaret will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, with Rev Paul Pluth, JCL presiding.
