Lori Ann Benaron

Lori Ann Benaron, 42, of Portola Valley, Calif., died July 3, 2002, after a three-year battle against cancer. She was the sixth generation to live on Whidbey Island. Her fifth and fourth great-grandfathers were Simeon and Thomas Kinney, sea captains out of Nova Scotia, Canada, who came to Whidbey Island in 1852.

Lori was born Aug. 17, 1959, on Whidbey Island. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She is survived by her huband, Dr. David Benaron; two wonderful sons, Isaak, 8, and Britton, 3; mother Arlie Lynch Uptegrove; brother Richard Uptegrove and two nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Uptegrove. A memorial service was held in California in July so her many friends could celebrate her love of life, her sense of humor and compassion for others. Aug. 21, Lori’s family and friends gathered at her Ebey’s Landing, her favorite beach, to witness the scattering of her ashes in the sea.
