Joanne Mason Shekelle: Jan. 1, 1929-Feb. 3, 2018

Joanne Mason Shekelle, 89 years young, passed on to a better life on Feb. 3, 2018. She was born in Seattle and lived much of her life in Oak Harbor, graduating from Oak Harbor High School in 1947. In the mid-1980s through 2015, Joanne resided in the Burlington and Mount Vernon area.

She was the beautiful daughter of Lillian Sheckels Weidenbach and John Sheckels. Joanne is survived by her children Cheryl Nunn, John Mason and Tammy Parkinson, along with her brother, William Sheckels. Joanne is also survived by her husband Richard Shekelle in Friday Harbor. Joanne was preceded in death by her sister Jean Sheckels Hubler and her late husband, Spencer Mason.

Joanne was the loving grandmother to six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joanne was an active member of the LDS faith and loved genealogy as well as quilting.

One of her greatest joys was rescuing and caring for her beloved dog, Joey. In her final years she lived in Oak Harbor at Regency on Whidbey’s Care Facility where she was taken care of with love.

To our Mom: Even though you are physically gone, your unconditional love, your kindness and your gentle spirit will remain alive in us. We strive to be better human beings through the example you set. We will miss your presence in each of our lives.

The immediate family will have a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Feb. 24, where loving memories will be shared in a private setting to honor Joanne’s gentle caring heart.
