Joanna Lynn Mikan, a resident of Oak Harbor for 26 years, left this world to begin anew on Sept. 12, 2017, at the age of 52. Joanna passed peacefully in her home while sleeping next to her beloved husband and companion John and was surrounded by the love and care of her family and close friends before her departure from us.
Joanna Lynn was born in Kingsville, Texas, on March 22, 1965 and was the precious daughter of Boone and Kitty Shawver. Joanna was raised in Oregon and lived out the rest of her life in Oak Harbor, close to most of her loving family. Together, she and John provided the island with reliable auto detailing services from Boss Detail, on Goldie Road. Later Joanne also provided in-home boarding and kitty care services to local residents, maintaining a second business called Joanna’s Kitty Inn.
Joanna leaves behind her loving husband of 37 years, John Mikan; daughter Rachal Ferguson; mother Kitty Shawver and father Boone Shawver; beloved sister Caryl Shawver and brothers Terry and Keith Ferguson; precious grand-children Mattie Hammond and Bradley Abourto; nieces and nephews, aunts, in-laws and so many friends. Joanna also had a son, Jake Kerry, whom she is now adjoined. Joanne touched the lives of everyone she met and made an impact on the lives of all the family and friends she dearly loved.
Joanna, we celebrate your new life as you run free in heaven, being now free of the pain and burdens of the flesh and the agonies of cancer. We send you our love and blessings to hold until we all come to be together again! Immeasurable grace and love be yours forever.
A celebration of life gathering will be held for family and friends and for all who would like to join us at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at the Elks Lodge, 1009 7th Street, Anacortes.
