James A. McDowell — who was born April 7, 1947 — passed away Jan. 7 in the loving care of dear friends.

Jim is survived by his two children, Maggie McDowell Schoeberl (John) and Jimmy McDowell (Jonee); three grandchildren; and four siblings, Kim McDowell, Roger McDowell, Darrell McDowell and Heide Paulus.

Since 1989, Whidbey Island has mostly been a place he passionately called home. More entrepreneur than a family man, Jim had a keen sense for opportunity, an unstoppable drive and never-ending positivity.

He touched people with his infectious charm, his many stories and his vigor for life. He will be missed. We wish him well on his spirit journey.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, on Whidbey Island at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.
