Dorothy E. Bradfield: June 3, 1922-Nov. 12, 2016

Dorothy E. Bradfield, dear mother, friend and sister in Christ, slipped away from her loving family and friends on Nov. 12, 2016. Born in Bremerton to Marian and Fred Gemmell on June 3, 1922, she is survived by her three daughters Nina Carter, Marian Martin and Margaret Gouveia, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Baldwin O. Bradfield and her brothers, Robert and Fred Gemmell.

Growing up in Tacoma, she graduated from Lincoln High School and Beutel Business College. She lived in various places, including New York, Panama Canal Zone, Lakebay and Puyallup, where she worked for the WSU Extension Service. She lived in Oak Harbor for the last 42 years, spending the last five years happily in Harbor Tower Village.

A member of Whidbey Presbyterian Church, she was active in many areas of church life, including serving as a Stephen Minister, deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Her favorite activities were walking, doing crossword puzzles, travelling and reading.

She was blessed with a happy spirit, saw the best in people and shared her joy with everyone.

She will be missed by her family, many friends and all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 at Whidbey Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Whidbey Presbyterian Church’s Scholarship Fund.
