David Vaughan, 79, longtime resident of Coupeville, Wash., passed away on Oct. 25, 2016. He was born in San Francisco, Calif. on Dec. 30, 1936 to Basil and Louise (Moore) Vaughan. He attended San Jose State where he received his B.S. degree in engineering.

Dave was instrumental in developing products for UPS. Dave enjoyed 10 years of merchandising, which he learned from his wife, Barbara. He loved working up until the day he died. He also enjoyed cruising to various ports around the world with Barb.

Nelson, the springer spaniel, was the love of his life. They adored each other and would spend many hours in the outdoors.

Dave loved his Lion family. He was past president and volunteered many hours. He managed the displays of records, videos and CDs, for the annual Lions Garage Sale. He was also proud to earn money for scholarships for high school seniors in the Coupeville area.

He tried to spend as many hours as possible in his garden, orchard and with his chickens. He grew asparagus, kale, lettuce, beans, beets and much more. His orchard was cherry, peach, apple, pear trees and berry bushes. He was always planting new trees on his property.

For many, many years Dave was involved with the Basset Club of Coupeville and many other clubs around the west coast states.

He had many basset hound champions, dual champions and was often asked to judge the field trials of Washington clubs. The Greater Seattle Basset Club is dedicating their summer field trains to the memory of Dave.

Dave is survived by his wife of 15 years, Barbara; his brother, Bill Moore and wife, Marilyn; sister, Cheryl Waddell; as well as his son Dale Vaughan, his wife, Kimberly, and grandsons Merrick and Hudson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Dave’s birthday, Dec. 30, at the Pacific Rim Institute for Environmental Studies on Parker Road, Coupeville. Memorials may be made to the Pacific Rim Institute for Environmental Studies, 180 Parker Road, Coupeville, WA 98239.
