Clara Louise Hummel: Aug. 12, 1933 – Dec. 30, 2018.

Clara Louise Hummel passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018.

Clara was born on Aug. 12, 1933 in Buffalo, N.Y. to German immigrants Carl Dischner and Margaret Mueller Dischner.

She was the loving younger sister to her two older brothers Carl and Frank Dischner.

Clara graduated from Mount of St. Joseph High School in Buffalo and soon after married Richard Christian Hummel in Saint Bartholomew’s Church on Aug. 22, 1953.

The wife of a Navy veteran brought moves from Buffalo to Detroit, Seattle and Oak Harbor.

Dick and Clara settled in Oak Harbor after his retirement from the Navy in 1979 and remained there until the present.

Clara remained true to her vows of through sickness and health for 65 years of marriage until her death.

She was also committed to her faith as a practicing Catholic throughout her lifetime.

Clara was an amazing mother to four surviving children: Susan Marie (Jeff) Abrahamse, Mark Alan (Nancy) Hummel, Donna Claire (Scott) Evans, and Thomas Charles (Julie) Hummel.

She is also survived by her husband, brothers, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Clara is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Margaret Dischner.

It is with both saddened and thankful hearts that we bear the passing of this amazing woman.

We shed tears of sadness in that she is no longer with us as well as tears of thankfulness and gratitude for all that she did and for her faith which allows us to know that she is in heaven.

She was and remains much loved as a spouse, mother, sister and friend.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday Jan. 26, 2018 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 185 North Oak Harbor St. Oak Harbor at 10 a.m. Reception to follow in the church meeting hall.

The family would like to extend its deep appreciation to the staff at Whidbey Health Medical Center and the hospice care providers whose compassion and thoughtfulness during the final days of life on earth resulted in a comfortable and peaceful passing.
