Cathy Bangert: July 7, 1945 – March 9, 2019

In Loving Memory of Cathy Bangert (Mary Catherine Hill.)

Born July 7, 1945 in Chicago to Eleanore Boehler and John F. Hill. She passed away suddenly on March 9, 2019 at the age of 73, surrounded by her loved ones.

Cathy grew up in Glendale and Burbank, Calif., attending Bellarmine-Jefferson High School. She worked at Arco from 1969-1985 as an executive assistant. She and her prior husband Douglas Riach raised their two daughters in Burbank.

Cathy moved to Bellevue, Wash. in the 1990s, where she worked at Virginia Mason. In early 2000, she took a job at Seattle Humane, which was a perfect match for her as she loved animals. She was very involved in Tuxes & Tails, a charity event benefiting Seattle Humane.

In 2005, she married Robert Bangert and moved to Whidbey Island. For six years Cathy and Rob worked together at the Whidbey Island Ice Cream Co.

Cathy appreciated life. She was cleverly creative and enjoyed collecting beach glass on perhaps every beach on Whidbey Island.

Many people knew her as “Happy Cathy,” always upbeat and interested in the lives of others. She was kind and generous and never said a negative word against anyone.

She is survived by her husband Robert Bangert; her daughters Noelle Norrie and Channing Riach; grandson Tyus Rehm; sisters Christine Hill and Maureen Franklin; and her brother Patrick Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Eleanore Hill, her sister Terri Perri and her brother Michael Hill.

A celebration of life will be held 1-4 p.m., Saturday, March 30 at the Marysville Historical Society, 6805 Armar Road, Marysville, WA 98270.
