Alma G. Sheppard: March 5, 1926-April 4, 2018

Alma Gertrude Sheppard (Roodzant, Pea) went to sleep in La Conner and woke up in Heaven with her Savior on April 4, 2018.

She was born in Burlington on March 5, 1926 to John and Grace Roodzant. She celebrated her 92nd birthday with family and friends and chocolate cake (her favorite) just a month ago.

Alma lived in Kodiak, Alaska and East St. Louis, Ill. for a short time, but returned to the family home in Oak Harbor in 1960.

She worked at Pioneer Department Store in Oak Harbor for many years, and when it closed she worked at Sebo’s Hardware until she married A.B. “Shep” Sheppard in March 1989. They had 13 wonderful years together before Shep passed in 2002.

Alma enjoyed feeding the birds, reading, crocheting and loved hearing the Navy jets fly over her home.

She also was well known for sending birthday cards, the funnier the better. But above all, Alma loved her family. Any time she could get together with family was the best.

Alma was Mom to her daughter Donna (Ted) Carr of Anacortes, Gram to Aaron (Ashley) Carr of Anacortes; Laurel (Casey) Dixon of Bellingham; Raschel Thompson of Marysville; Rachel Lee of Lynnwood and Angela (Ryan) Cesastis of Scottsdale, Ariz. And Alma was Gramma-Great to Brooke, Chanel, Parker, Damian, Jordan, Isabelle, Shep and Rilynne. She was also sister to Duane (Pat) Roodzant of Houston.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband Shep, son Barry Pea, and her parents.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at La Conner Retirement Inn for their excellent and loving care of Mom/Gramma these past two years, but especially the last six months as Mom’s health and attitude declined.
